Cao Bang Town :
The town lies in a valley some
150 above sea level and 317 km from Hanoi. It is where the rivers of Mang
Hieu and Tra Vinh converge.
Pac Bo :
Some 60 km from Cao Bang Town is Pac Bo, a
small hamlet in Truong Ha commune, Ha Quang district, close to the
Vietnamese-Chinese border. Pac Bo in the local dialect means watershed,
where springs of clear water run. Behind Pac Bo hamlet is a range of stone
mountain which houses the Coc Bo Grotto where Ho Chi Minh returned in
February 1941 from 30 years of difficult living abroad in search of a way
to liberate the country.
Coc Bo Grotto is about one kilometer from the hamlet. The trek leading to
the small entrance of the grotto is covered by thick bushes. Its chamber
is about 30m2 dotted with beautiful stalactites and
stalagmites. President Ho made a statue of Karl Marx out of one of the
stalagmites, and named the spring running in front of the grotto entrance
after Lenin and the highest mountain peak after Karl Marx again.
In this grotto President Ho presided over many important meetings to
discuss ways to bring the Vietnamese revolution to final victory.
Ba Be lake :
From Thai Nguyen City, capital
of Bac Thai province, you drive along Highway 3 to the towns of Bac Can
and Phu Thong. After another 16 km you will arrive at Ba Be Lake which is
about 225 km from Hanoi. Ba Be is some 145m above sea level, 8 km long, 3
km wide and about 20-30m deep. The lakes actually consists of three lakes
called Pe Lam, Pe Lu and Pe Leng, and derives its name Ba Be (which in
Vietnamese means three seas) from this, Lake Ba Be is surrounded by
limestone mountains and thick forest, home to many species of rare birds
and animals.
The best time to visit Ba Be is in spring. You can take a dugout canoe to
visit the small islands of Po Ga Mai and An Ma, and Puong Grotto. The
Grotto, is about 300m long, and 30-40m in height and width. The
stalagmites and stalagmites inside the grotto are beautiful and diverse in
forms. Some of them look like a reclining Buddha, a sitting tiger,
climbing monkeys and so on.
If you have time, you can travel
one hour by boat to visit Dau Dang Fall. The 100-m, three-level waterfall
makes the scenery even more magnificent.
Ban Gioc Fall :
Travelling 20 km from the district town of Trung Khanh you arrive at Dam
Thuy commune. From a distance you can hear the number of water falling and
see mist shrouding part of mountain and Qui Son river near by the
Vietnamese-Chinese border. This is the Ban Gioc fall some 30m high.
At the foot of Ban Gioc is a large river of smooth, clear water. On the
banks of the river are lust green pastures dotted by wild flowers. Ban
Gioc looks best during the rainy season from June to October. Inside the
fall live well-known delicious fish called tram huong.

Gioc Fall is situated in Trung Khanh district in Cao Bang province nears
the Sino-Vietnamese border. The echo of the falls can be heard kilometers
away from Trung Khanh.
Water from Quy Xuan River falling down on the stone creates water droplets
columns that can be seen from a distance. The temperature near the
waterfall is remarkably cool, due to the water mist in the air.
At the foot of the waterfall is a large river, as calm as glass,
surrounded by many precious kinds of flowers. Ban Gioc Fall is famous for
a famous fish named tram huong. In the early 1920s, French people started
building cottages on the river banks. They would come here to relax, fish
for tram huong, and hunt deer.
Pac Bo Cave

Pac
Bo is a small mountainous village in Trung Hoa commune, Ha Quang district,
Cao Bang province, 350 km north of Hanoi.
Pac Bo is known nationwide as a revolutionary resistance base. The famous
Coc Bo cave is where President Ho Chi Minh established his residence and
worked on Vietnam’s revolutionary course after returning from 30 years
abroad.
The main historical relics in this area consists of Coc Bo cave, Lenin
stream, Cac Mac mountain, Bo Bam cave, Co Rac ground, and Khuoi Nam-where
President Ho Chi Minh directly trained cadres and held many tactical
meetings.
Riding 272 km
by car from Hanoi along National Highway 3, you will arrive at Cao Bang
Town. Sleeping through the night in open air and a cool and quiet
atmosphere of this mountainous area, your tiredness will disappear. The
next morning you will ride through Hoa An to reach Ha Quang area. Through
the windows of your car, you can see golden rice fields lying amid green
mountains, small hamlets with dozens of houses on-stilts under the shade
of towering clusters of peach trees, and the winding streams with
thatch-roofed bridges. You will certainly be very interested in enjoying
the picturesque scenery, endowed by the nature. |
