Dong Loc Forked Road:
It is the meeting place of the two
provincial roads, No 5 and 15 in the hilly area of Ha Tinh province.
During the anti-US was of resistance the Dong Loc forked road was the main
junction of the supply line from the North to the Ho Chi Minh Trail. US
aircraft concentrated a very great number of bombs and ammunition in
repeated effort to destroy the junction and the surrounding area. this
less than 20-km section of road had to undergo 2,057 bombardments from the
air.
A
unit of 10 young female volunteers, aged from 17 to 20, led by Miss Vo Thi
Tan was assigned to maintain the road and keep it open to traffic. Despite
repeated heavy bombardments of the road by the US Air force, they stayed
at their post, using only shovels and hoes to level bomb craters.
Tragically they all were killed during an air attack of the road on July
24,1968.
A monument
engraved with the names of the ten heroines was erected on a hill at the
Dong Loc road junction which is now once more surrounded with green trees.
The Native
Village of poet Nguyen Du:
Nguyen Du (aliases and pseudonyms To Nhu, Thanh Hien, Hong
Son and Hiep Lo) was born in 1765 into a family of scholars and
illustrious mandarins. His father was Nguyen Nghiem, native of Tien Dien
village, Nghi Xuan district. His mother was Tran Thi Tan, native of Hoa
Thieu village, Dong Ngan district, now Tien Son district, Ha Bac province.
Having successfully passed the provincial examinations at the age of
nineteen, he served as military mandarin under Le Canh Hung.
In 1879 Nguyen Hue, a peasant horde, made
290,000 invading Qing troops out of the country. King Le Chieu Thong
cowardly fled the country and followed the invaders. After the fall of the
Le dynasty. Nguyen Du refused to serve Nguyen Hue. Instead he chose to
live in poverty for 10 years in his wife's native village in Thai Binh
province.
In 1802 Nguyen Du grudgingly accepted service under Gia Long, the founder
of the Nguyen Dynasty for 16 years. However in his heart he did not like
mandarin work and applied for retirement no less than three times, each
time in vain. He was named Right-Hand Deputy Minister at the Ministry of
Rites. In 1820 he died in the royal capital of Hue.
His most famous works is the Kieu Story, a narrative in 3,254 verses. With
this work Nguyen Du stands out as the greatest poet Vietnam has ever
produced.
There is a memorial house, commemorating Nguye Du built in Tien Dien
village. About one kilometer from the house is his tomb.

Thien Cam Beach
:
Thien
Cam Beach is situated approximately 20 km from Ha Tinh, in Ha Tinh
province. The low mountains in proximity to the sea have created a
beautiful landscape. Separated from the mountain foot by a sandbank, Yen
Lac Pagoda, built during the 13th century, is a relic preserved by the
government. A famous set of paintings called "the King of Hell's Ten
Palaces" has been kept in the pagoda since the beginning of the century.
The French built Thien Cam as a resort, but nearly all
the infrastructures were destroyed during the wars.
Nowadays, Thien Cam Beach has become a tourist site where many come to
vacation. |
